The Furloughed Chronicles: Day 1
Well today I officially got furloughed. Its funny how complaining about how bad work is on a daily basis and daydreaming of quitting has become a pseudo reality. Only in my daydreams I had a back up that would give me as much pay or more than what I would have left behind.
Other than thinking that this has, in my mind, set the women's movement about 50 years back since the majority of friends my age are working and in the federal government and now we get to go home and play house.
We were not raised to play house. We were raised to pave our way be strong and independent. Yet somehow we have become dependent of Uncle Sam and being part of his workforce. All these thoughts plagued me as I read my letter telling me how even though I kill myself day in and day out I am still not considered an "essential employee" for the time being. This is as a friend said, one of the meanest things your employer could say about you. Yet in the future, once we return, all will be forgotten as if a amnesia coated fog surrounds their thinking and back to saltmines we go.
So, other than thinking of other avenues for leaving and trying not to take a sign on a bus that said " Quit now!!" as a sign from the universe, today I think I will focus on cleaning. Yes, my release and escape from all the problems in my little bubble of a world. Oh yeah, I should get back to the other part of my life: grad school.
